The self setting Calcium Phosphate Cement was developed in mid 1980s.

The non ceramic hydroxyapatite bone material has two components, Calcium phospahte & setting liquid. The two parts are mixed and putty like material is obtained.It can be used to fill the defects. Putty can be molded into any shape by using hands or instruments. It can provide good sealing properties. Being putty and easy moldability provide very good contact with bony tissues. within 10 minutes the putty hardens with no or little heat. It does not harm surrounding tissues. Full hardening takes place in 24 hours time.

Being pure inorganic substance, it does not have any kind of carcinogenicity, mutogenicity or any kind of allergic and or sensitization reaction. All the inorganic compounds used in it are present in the body in different concentration.

After mixing it is usable for 3-5 minutes.

It is possible to mix it with antibiotics. However it may alter the stting time and ultimate hardness.
